After several months of meetings with potential financiers, construction begin on June 11, 1990 for the Delta Center. Larry H. Miller's vision was clear to Sumitomo Trust and the Redevelopment Agency of Salt Lake City, who agreed to fund the new home of the Utah Jazz. A typical construction period for similar projects are between 24 and 30 months, but the Delta Center needed to completed in just over one year. To be exact, the required completion called for a finished project in 15 months and 24 days due to the 1991-92 season opener for the Utah Jazz. This ambitious goal was achieved through the teamwork and cooperation of subcontractors, suppliers and other workers.

Sahara Construction and Ohbayashi Corporation teamed up for the creation of the 743,000 square foot building. Sahara Construction also served as general contractor for the 7.6 acre plaza and other amenities within the building. Tim constraints required that the construction team work fast and hard. As such, the structural, mechanical, electrical and civil engineering responsibilities were accepted by the general contractor. Excavation began and continued around the clock as workers scrambled to complete the initial design package for the foundations and footings.

The Delta Center features 20,500 seats and a number of amazing architectural facts. The arena's frame consists of 37,400 cubic yards of concrete and more than 7.5 million pounds of steel. Nearly 500,000 masonry blocks were used in walls and the roof structure, alone, weighs 3 million pounds. The completion of the roof system was one of the milestones of the Delta Center.

Located inside the Delta Center is the Lions Bank Basketball Center, which is recognized as a state of the art practice facility for the Utah Jazz. The facility features NBA full size courts, retractable seating for 348 spectators, locker rooms, concession area and more. There is also a press and broadcast room adjourning the practice courts.

The Delta Center was completed in October 1991 and is a reflection of the commitment and achievements of everyone involved. This modern facility hosts a wide of variety of events, including basketball and other sporting events, concerts, family events and more. Thousands of fans attend each year to enjoy a fun atmosphere and live events in a center with plenty of amenities, comforts and memories that will last a lifetime. While an event at the Delta Center may only last for several hours, the recollections will go on forever.
